ABOUT US

deSoto is a European-style confiserie specializing in artisan caramelized nuts. In Spain, caramelized nuts are a fixture of summertime fairs and festivals, and are also enjoyed during the winter holidays. Owner/chef Adrián makes the nuts in small batches, using the traditional Spanish method which is naturally vegan and gluten-free.

Caramelized nuts can be enjoyed as a snack, or as a delicious addition to charcuterie boards, salads, oatmeal, and ice cream. They also make teacher, employee, or host gifts, as well as stocking stuffers.

Owner/Chef Adrián Fernández Nuñez

Adrián grew up in a family of bakers in Spain, and has worked in various bakeries and pastry kitchens in Europe, during which time he met his future wife, Amanda. They eventually moved to Amanda´s home state of Michigan in 2019.

Adrián has always enjoyed creating confections and sweets in his spare time, to share with family and friends. In 2021, he began making caramelized nuts with the traditional Spanish method passed on to him by friends in his hometown, and along with Amanda, began selling caramelized nuts in local markets in West Michigan. Adrián named the business deSoto to honor his late grandfather. In 2022 deSoto moved into a commercial kitchen space in downtown Grand Rapids.
